There's a question I get asked more than any other: why hospitality?
The honest answer is that I didn't set out to build a hospitality company. I set out to build places I wanted to exist in the world — places that felt intentional, where the details mattered, where you could slow down and actually be present.
If you've travelled enough in India, you know the pattern. You arrive at a hotel. The lobby is fine. The room is fine. The breakfast buffet is fine. Everything is fine — and nothing stays with you.
That's the gap we saw. Not in luxury — India has plenty of luxury hotels. The gap was in character. In spaces that had a point of view. In stays that felt like they were made by people who cared about the same things you do.
The kind of place I've always wanted to stay in when I travel and rarely found — where the building has a point of view.
Musée Living isn't a hotel chain. It's a family of brands, each built around a different idea:
Each brand exists because we believed something was missing — and we wanted to fill that gap ourselves.
Every decision at Musée starts with a simple question: would I want this?
Would I want to wake up in this room? Would I want to sit in this cafe for three hours? Would I want my friends to celebrate here?
If the answer isn't an immediate yes, we go back to the drawing board. That's not a process — it's a filter. And it's the only thing that keeps the work honest.
None of this works without the team. Jitin brings the creative eye from Scotland. Prateek drives strategy from across the Atlantic. And the team on the ground in Dehradun — from Harry at the front desk to Deepti in operations — they're the reason guests come back.
We're a small team. That's by design. Small means every person matters. Small means we can change course quickly. Small means nobody hides behind a title.
We're writing this journal because we believe in sharing the process, not just the result. You'll hear about the decisions we're making, the mistakes we're learning from, and the philosophy that drives everything we build.
If you've stayed with us, you already know what Musée feels like. This journal is about showing you why it feels that way.
This is the first post in the Founder's Journal — a series of notes from the people building Musée Living. Follow along as we share what we're learning about hospitality, brand-building, and making spaces that matter.
